Leave Your Trash, Collect Your Saplings

The "Leave Your Trash, Collect Your Sapling" event, organized by the Department of Commerce (PA, ISM, IAF & SF) under the School of Humanities, FLAB, in association with NSS, Rotaract Club, and Campus Life, was held on 3rd August 2026 as part of Green Day celebrations to promote environmental awareness among students. The initiative encouraged responsible waste disposal by having participants collect and dispose of trash in exchange for saplings, fostering a culture of cleanliness and tree plantation on campus.

The Skill Elevation Club organized a Placement Readiness Session titled “From Campus to Infosys – A Success Journey” on 03 August 2026 via Google Meet. Mr. Hemanth M, Digital Specialist Engineer at Infosys and an MCA Generative AI alumnus, shared valuable insights on placement preparation, technical skills, interview strategies, and career development. The session was attended by 196 students and provided practical guidance to enhance their employability and placement readiness.

Field Visit to Victoria Public Hall

The Department of Visual Communication, SRM Institute of Science & Technology (Ramapuram), organised a field visit to Victoria Public Hall, Chennai on 31 July 2026 for 37 II B.Sc. Visual Communication students, guided by Dr. V. Prabakaran, Mr. S. Makesh, and Mr. Vigneshwaran. Students gained hands-on experience in photography, videography, and heritage documentation, blending classroom learning with real-world digital storytelling practice.

Financial Skills for Young Children

The event was a Student Skill Development Programme on “Financial Skills for Young Children”, organized by the Department of Commerce on 31 July 2026. The session by Dr. T. Vijayakumar, Director, SEBI SMART Organisation, focused on financial literacy, saving, budgeting, responsible spending, financial planning, and basic mutual fund awareness, helping students develop practical financial knowledge.

Inaguration Of Language Elites and Sangamam

The Department of Language, Culture and Society, SRM IST, Ramapuram, inaugurated its literary and cultural clubs, Language Elites and Sangamam, on 31 July 2026 at Block V Gallery Hall III. The event, graced by Mr. K. Shantharam as Chief Guest, highlighted the importance of communication, creativity, cultural awareness, and leadership. The session was delivered by Mr. J. Nithish, Accounting Associate, Adamsbridge India Private Limited, Chennai. Conducted for B.Com students, the programme aimed to bridge the gap between academic learning and the corporate world by providing insights into workplace expectations, career development, professional skills, and industry practices. Industrial Visit

The Industrial Visit to Dakshina Chitra Heritage Museum provided Fashion Designing students with valuable exposure to South Indian traditional architecture, textiles, crafts, and cultural heritage. The visit enhanced their understanding of the relationship between culture and fashion, inspired sustainable design practices, and offered practical insights into traditional craftsmanship, textile production, and heritage-based design innovation.

Senior In Style – Social Service Activity

The “Seniors in Style” Social Service Activity successfully combined fashion education with community engagement by providing senior citizens with a joyful and inclusive platform to celebrate confidence, dignity, and self-expression. Through styling, grooming, and fashion show activities, students applied their creative skills for a meaningful social cause while developing empathy, communication, and service-oriented design values.

Workshop on Lighting

The Cinematography Lighting Workshop conducted by alumnus Mr. Arun Kumar Raja, a professional cinematographer, provided students with practical knowledge of camera operations, exposure control, and advanced lighting techniques used in film production. Through hands-on demonstrations and interactive discussions, participants gained valuable insights into visual storytelling, cinematography fundamentals, and industry practices, enhancing their technical and creative filmmaking skills.

Faculty Immersion Program

The Department of Computer Science (Cyber Security) organized a Faculty Immersion Program at Laya Tech Private Limited, Chennai, on 25th July 2026, for 15 faculty members. The program covered enterprise cybersecurity topics including endpoint security, SOC operations, firewall security, OT security, and cloud security through interactive sessions and live demonstrations, successfully bridging academic knowledge with real-world industry practices.

Knowledge Knock Out- Quiz Program for School Student

The “Knowledge Knock Out” quiz program, organized by the Department of Commerce for +1 and +2 students, enhanced general knowledge, critical thinking, teamwork, and confidence through interactive questions on sports, infrastructure, and defence. The event promoted healthy competition, provided exposure to a university-level experience, and concluded with prize distribution and highly positive feedback.

The Department of Visual Communication, SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Ramapuram, organised an educational visit to the Anna Centenary Library, Kotturpuram, Chennai, on 16 July 2026 for 17 M.Sc. Visual Communication second-year students. The Seed Ball Preparation and Dispersal Programme, organized as part of Van Mahotsav Week 2026, was successfully conducted on 6 and 7 July 2026 by the Department of Commerce (PA, ISM & IAF), Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, in association with NSS. The Department of Computer Applications hosted a Code-a-thon (“Code Enthus Club”) on 05 March 2026 (09:00–12:00) in Block V BCA Lab. Thirteen teams (37 students) tackled 50 programming problems across C, C++, Python, and Java in a 3‑hour competitive event that boosted coding skills, teamwork, and problem-solving, aligning with SDG goals for quality education and employability.

The Women’s Grievance and Redressal Cell, in association with the Department of Commerce – PA, ISM & IAF and the Tech Warriors Club, organized an awareness workshop on “Stay Safe Online: Cyber Security Awareness for Women in Digital World” on 6 February 2026 at the AV Hall. The session was conducted for I B.Com PA, ISM, and IAF students and focused on building awareness about online safety, cyber threats, and responsible digital practices for women in today’s connected world. Mr. Kasi Dharan T, Training Officer, Magic Bus India Foundation, Chennai, served as the guest speaker and shared practical guidance on identifying cyber risks, protecting personal information, using digital platforms safely, and responding to online harassment or fraudulent activities. The workshop aimed to empower students with the knowledge and confidence needed to navigate the digital space securely, responsibly, and with greater awareness of cyber security challenges.

The Department of Commerce, under the Faculty of Science and Humanities at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organized COMMEX ’26 – Digital Defenders, a national-level inter-collegiate event, on 6 February 2026 at the TRP Auditorium. The event was conducted for UG and PG students from across India and centered on the theme of digital awareness, cybersecurity, and responsible participation in the online world. Designed as a competitive and knowledge-driven platform, Digital Defenders aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of digital threats, cyber safety practices, and the importance of secure digital behaviour in an increasingly technology-driven society. By bringing together students from different institutions, the event encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and awareness of contemporary digital challenges while promoting a culture of informed and responsible digital citizenship.

Portfolio Briefing was held on 06 February 2026 at Block V, Room 104 for 70 II BCA and BCA GenAI students. Final-year students guided their juniors on building strong portfolios, resumes, blogs, and personal webpages using tools like Overleaf and Haveloc, making the session practical, interactive, and useful for placement preparation.

PROMPT HOUSE’26

The second round of the day began with Ms.Raghavi and Ms.Saishree, the Emcee, extending a warm welcome to the participants and briefing the audience about the format and rules of the round 2 competition. Participants actively took part in the event by selecting prompts and creating their own audio versions with unique perspectives. Each participant presented their redesigned prompts to the audience, explaining the concept and creativity behind their work. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and innovative ideas, which reflected the artistic and technical skills of the students.

The hands-on training session on Azolla Cultivation organized by the Department of Biotechnology, FSH, SRMIST–Ramapuram provided school students with practical knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices and the scientific significance of Azolla. The Language Elites and Sangamam of the Department of English and Other Foreign Languages, FSH, SRMIST Ramapuram, successfully conducted the solo singing contest "Chord Crushers" on 24th September 2025, themed around English Jazz and Tamil Folk to celebrate musical expression and cultural diversity among FSH students. Around 18 talented students were shortlisted for the final round, captivating the audience with their vocal prowess, stage presence, and genre versatility, with Dr. Jabeela Shirlin, HoD, EFL, serving as judge. The Department of English and Other Foreign Languages, FSH, SRMIST Ramapuram, successfully hosted its Intercollegiate Literary Fest "LITPHORIA 2K25" on 19th September 2025 at Hi-Tech Hall II, themed "Zephyra: Myth and Magic on the Wings," exploring Greek Mythology, Fantasy, and Philosophy. The fest drew over 130 students from 10 colleges across Chennai, who participated enthusiastically in six events — Monologia, Graphomarchia, Theatophon, Aletheia, Eikonea, and Syllipsi. Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science won the Overall Championship, with SRM IST, Kattankulathur as Runner-up, while the day featured an inaugural address by Dr. Praveen Prabhu J and a valedictory address by Dr. Jayanthi Rajendran, along with prize distribution by the dignitaries.
