SUMMARY OF THE EVENT:
The Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), Ramapuram, in association with Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Malaysia, successfully organized a Guest Lecture under the Global Classroom initiative on the topic “Therapeutic Enzymes: From Benchside to Bedside” on 04th November 2025. The session began with an introduction of the guest by Prof. Dr. Mahadeva Rao, Faculty of Medicine, UniSZA, Malaysia. The lecture was delivered by Dr.S.Suresh, Assistant Professor (Sr. G), Department of Biotechnology, FSH, SRMIST, Ramapuram.
Dr. Suresh started the session with an overview of basic enzyme concepts and their mechanisms, followed by a discussion on the “One Gene–One Enzyme” concept, emphasizing its importance in understanding metabolic and molecular processes. He also explained intermediary metabolic disorders and their enzymatic roles, along with an in-depth discussion on therapeutic enzymes, their classification, and their significance in biochemical and diagnostic applications, as well as their role in disease treatment. The session was highly interactive and students actively participated, took notes with great interest, and engaged in a question-and-answer session to clarify their doubts related to the applications of therapeutic enzymes.
Overall, the lecture provided valuable insights into the field of enzyme-based therapeutics and strengthened the academic collaboration between SRMIST and UniSZA.
OUTCOMES OF THE PROGRAM:
The session enhanced academic collaboration and provided a global learning platform for students and faculty members. It enabled: Knowledge exchange between SRMIST and UniSZA through a shared academic session.
Exposure of UniSZA MBBS students to the fundamentals and therapeutic applications of enzymes from a biotechnological perspective.
Strengthening of international academic relations and fostering future joint teaching and research initiatives.
Motivation among students to explore enzyme technology and its medical applications.
Overall, the program successfully met its objective of promoting global academic integration and research-oriented learning under the MoU framework.
