SUMMARY OF THE EVENT:

Bridge Course for Freshers – “Begin Your Journey into the World of Media”

The Department of Media Studies, Faculty of Science & Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organised a Bridge Course for Freshers from 22 July 2026 to 28 July 2026 at the PG Dental Block. The programme, themed “Begin Your Journey into the World of Media,” was designed to introduce newly admitted students to the diverse disciplines and emerging opportunities within the field of Media Studies. A total of 75 first-year students participated in the programme.

The five-day programme featured sessions by faculty members covering a wide range of areas, including creativity, communication, journalism, filmmaking, visual communication, design, sound, storytelling, artificial intelligence, virtual production, and digital media. The sessions provided students with foundational knowledge while helping them understand the interdisciplinary nature of media education and contemporary industry practices.

Through expert-led sessions and interactive learning experiences, students explored topics such as visual storytelling, digital journalism, creative thinking, the language of images, branding and design, story structure, sound design, cinematic communication, artificial intelligence, and virtual production. The programme encouraged students to develop creativity, observation, communication, collaboration, and storytelling skills while familiarising them with emerging technologies and evolving media practices.

The Bridge Course served as an important platform to support the transition of freshers from school-level education to higher education. It enabled students to identify their areas of interest and gain a broader understanding of the academic and professional opportunities available in journalism, visual communication, film technology, and other media-related fields.

Overall, the programme provided a strong foundation for the students' academic journey in Media Studies. By combining creativity, technology, communication, and social awareness, the Bridge Course encouraged students to approach their future learning with curiosity, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the evolving media landscape.
