Nature Walk: Deconstructing the Wilderness in Eco-literature
Date: 9th March 2026
Venue: Tholkappia Poonga
Participants: BA English Students
The Department of Language, Culture & Society under the Faculty of Science and Humanities successfully organized an immersive educational experience titled “Nature Walk: Deconstructing the Wilderness in Eco-Literature.” This specialized Nature Walk, designed for BA English students, moved the classroom to the serene landscapes of Tholkappia Poonga on Monday, March 9, 2026.
The event aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical literary analysis and the physical environment. By stepping into the ‘wilderness,’ students were encouraged to apply ecocritical lenses to their surroundings, analyzing how nature is represented in literature while experiencing the ecological realities of an urban forest.
In line with our mission to be a “Place for Transformation,” this initiative provided students with a unique platform to develop a deeper appreciation for environmental stewardship and the power of Eco-Literature to influence climate consciousness. Through such experiential learning programs, the Department continues to foster critical inquiry and social responsibility among our budding scholars.
