Guest Lecture “Transition from Romanticism to Victorianism: Themes, Texts, and Literary Forms”

The Department of Language, Culture & Society, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai Ramapuram, successfully organized a Guest Lecture titled “Transition from Romanticism to Victorianism: Themes, Texts, and Literary Forms” on 10th February 2026 from 02:00 PM to 03:30 PM at Block V, Room No. 504.
The session was delivered by Dr. K. Nagamani, Assistant Professor, Department of Language, Culture and Society, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, SRM IST, Ramapuram. The resource person provided an insightful academic exploration of the literary transition from the Romantic to the Victorian age, focusing on the evolution of themes, socio-cultural contexts, representative texts, and emerging literary forms.

Dr. Nagamani elaborated on the changing literary sensibilities influenced by industrialization, social reform movements, and shifting moral frameworks of the nineteenth century. The lecture highlighted key writers, stylistic developments, and the transformation of narrative techniques that marked the period’s progression.
The session encouraged critical thinking and active engagement among students, who participated enthusiastically in discussions and clarified their understanding of literary history and theoretical perspectives. The lecture significantly enhanced students’ academic knowledge and analytical skills relevant to their B.A. English curriculum.
