SUMMARY OF THE EVENT:
The Department of Fashion Designing, SRM IST, Ramapuram, in collaboration with the Socio Activity Club and NSS, organized a community outreach event titled “Seniors in Style” on 26th July 2025 at Akshaya Trust, Ramapuram. The event featured a fashion show for elderly residents, styled and assisted by fashion design students.
The objective was to promote inclusivity, joy, and dignity for senior citizens while giving students a platform to apply their creative skills for a meaningful cause. The activity aligned with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) such as Good Health & Well-being, Quality Education, and Sustainable Communities.
Highlights included grooming sessions, customized garments, ramp walks by the elderly, and vibrant student participation. The event received heartfelt appreciation from participants and helped students build empathy, communication, and service-oriented design skills.
Overall, “Seniors in Style” successfully merged fashion with social responsibility, leaving a lasting impact on both participants and organizers.
Students from the Fashion Designing department played a central role in ideation, garment creation, makeup, styling, and show coordination.
Volunteers from the Socio Activity Club and NSS ensured smooth logistics, transportation, hospitality, and photography.
The activity emphasized values of empathy, creativity, and professionalism among the student community.
5. Outcome and Impact:
The elderly participants expressed overwhelming joy and gratitude for being celebrated and included Students gained invaluable real-world experience and satisfaction from engaging in community service through their domain knowledge.
The event succeeded in creating a model for fashion with a purpose, highlighting the transformative power of design beyond aesthetics.
Strengthened the bond between educational institutions and social welfare organizations.

Positive feedback was received from Akshaya Trust management, participants, students, and faculty.
Suggestions were made to conduct similar activities seasonally and involve different communities
