The Department of Commerce (PA, ISM, IAF & SF), School of Humanities, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organized a 6-day Bakery Training from 24th to 29th August 2026 in collaboration with the Central Palmgur & Palm Products Institute, KVIC (Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India), Chennai. Conducted at SRMIST Ramapuram from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM for 41 students, the programme offered hands-on practice in over 15 bakery items such as biscuits, cookies, puffs, cakes, and bread, equipping participants with practical skills and entrepreneurial exposure, along with a Govt. of India certificate.

The Department of Commerce (PA, ISM, IAF & SF), School of Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organised a Faculty Immersion Programme on "Tax Audit and ERP Systems" on 8 August 2026 in association with Hrudyaa AdConSer Private Limited, featuring sessions by Mr. Vinog on practical tax audit and taxation updates, and Mr. Karthikeyan on ERP systems and their advantages and challenges—providing faculty members valuable industry exposure to strengthen academia-industry collaboration and enrich classroom teaching with contemporary practices.

Financial Education Programme: Financial Awareness and Consumer Training

The Department of Commerce – PA, ISM, IAF & SF, SRM IST, Ramapuram, organized a SEBI-NISM Workshop on “Financial Education Programme: Financial Awareness and Consumer Training” on 6 August 2026. Leave Your Trash, Collect Your Saplings

The "Leave Your Trash, Collect Your Sapling" event, organized by the Department of Commerce (PA, ISM, IAF & SF) under the School of Humanities, FLAB, in association with NSS, Rotaract Club, and Campus Life, was held on 3rd August 2026 as part of Green Day celebrations to promote environmental awareness among students. The initiative encouraged responsible waste disposal by having participants collect and dispose of trash in exchange for saplings, fostering a culture of cleanliness and tree plantation on campus.

Financial Skills for Young Children

The event was a Student Skill Development Programme on “Financial Skills for Young Children”, organized by the Department of Commerce on 31 July 2026. The session by Dr. T. Vijayakumar, Director, SEBI SMART Organisation, focused on financial literacy, saving, budgeting, responsible spending, financial planning, and basic mutual fund awareness, helping students develop practical financial knowledge.

Knowledge Knock Out- Quiz Program for School Student

The “Knowledge Knock Out” quiz program, organized by the Department of Commerce for +1 and +2 students, enhanced general knowledge, critical thinking, teamwork, and confidence through interactive questions on sports, infrastructure, and defence. The event promoted healthy competition, provided exposure to a university-level experience, and concluded with prize distribution and highly positive feedback.

Bridge Course on International Accounting and Finance

The Bridge Course on International Accounting and Finance was organized by the Department of Commerce (PA, ISM & IAF), SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, on 16 July 2026. The programme provided students with a basic understanding of Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, and Business Accounting, helping them build a strong foundation for higher studies and careers in accounting and finance.

A Bridge Course on “Strategic Finance”

The Bridge Course on Strategic Finance provided first-year SF students with a strong foundation in financial strategy, planning, and decision-making through expert-led sessions. Placement & Development Programme

The Department of Commerce (PA, ISM & IAF), Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organized a Placement & Development Programme on "Career Opportunities in Company Secretaryship" on 13 July 2026 at Gallery Hall–III. The session was delivered by Mr. Naresh, Fellow Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI), who provided valuable insights into the role of Company Secretaries, corporate governance, compliance, and career opportunities. The Journal Club Inauguration under AURA (Academic Understanding & Research Advancement) was successfully conducted on 10 July 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at EB 110, First Floor, in physical mode. The event was organized for B.Com, ISM, PA, IAF, and SF students to encourage research-oriented learning, critical thinking, and academic discussion. VAN MAHOTSAV

The Seed Ball Preparation and Dispersal Programme, organized as part of Van Mahotsav Week 2026, was successfully conducted on 6 and 7 July 2026 by the Department of Commerce (PA, ISM & IAF), Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, in association with NSS. The programme aimed to promote environmental sustainability, afforestation, biodiversity conservation, and student participation in ecological initiatives. B.Com ISM students actively participated in preparing seed balls using native tree seeds and dispersing them across lake areas, public parks, and temple premises. The two-day initiative provided students with practical environmental learning while encouraging teamwork, community engagement, and a strong sense of responsibility towards nature.

Tribal Women Leading Change: Grassroots Initiative and Social Transformation towards Viksit Bharat 2047

The Department of Commerce, under the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, organized an ICSSR SRC Sponsored Two-Day National Conference on “Tribal Women Leading Change: Grassroots Initiative and Social Transformation Towards Viksit Bharat 2047” on 29 and 30 January 2026 at Gallery Hall 1, Block V, SRMIST. The conference brought together academicians, scholars, professionals, and invited dignitaries to deliberate on the role of tribal women in shaping inclusive social transformation, grassroots leadership, and national development in the context of Viksit Bharat 2047. Aimed at encouraging commerce students to think strategically and innovatively, Brandathon ’26 likely centered on the development, presentation, and evaluation of brand concepts, helping participants understand how brands are built, positioned, and communicated in competitive markets. The event served as an opportunity for students to combine creativity with commercial thinking, strengthen presentation and teamwork skills, and gain practical exposure to branding as an essential component of modern business and commerce education.

WOMEN’S SAFETY IN THE DIGITAL AND SOCIAL ERA

The Department of Commerce, in association with the Women’s Grievances and Redressal Cell, organized a guest lecture on “Women’s Safety in the Digital and Social Era” on 12 January 2026 at Gallery Hall 1. The session was held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM and was exclusively intended for women students. The lecture was delivered by Dr. R. C. Sripriya, Headmaster, Government Model Higher Secondary School, Arumbakkam, Chennai, who served as the resource person for the programme. The session focused on the growing importance of women’s safety in both digital and social spaces, addressing concerns such as online harassment, cyber threats, responsible use of social media, privacy protection, and the need for awareness and confidence in navigating the digital world. Brand Building on the Topic DECODE THE LOGO - KNOW THE BRAND

The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, organized an online brand-building activity titled “Decode the Logo – Know the Brand” on 27 December 2025 and 31 December 2025 for 12th Standard Commerce students. The programme was designed to introduce school students to the fundamentals of branding by helping them understand how logos reflect a company’s identity, values, and market presence. Through this activity, participants were encouraged to observe, identify, and interpret brand logos while connecting them to the businesses behind them. The event served as an engaging learning platform to strengthen brand awareness, visual recognition, and marketing understanding among young commerce learners. It also aimed to spark curiosity about how successful brands are built and remembered in the minds of consumers. As part of the programme, participants were informed that they would receive an e-certificate for their participation.

The session was handled by Mrs. R. Vinodhini, Head of the Department, B.Com CA, DG Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam, Chennai, as the resource person. The programme was designed to introduce students to the application of artificial intelligence tools in management accounting, highlighting how technology can support modern accounting practices, decision-making, financial analysis, and data handling. Through this hands-on training, students were exposed to the evolving intersection of accounting and digital tools, enabling them to understand how AI can improve efficiency, accuracy, and strategic planning in the field of commerce and finance. The session was handled by Mr. Karthik Subramanian, Co-Founder, DataDriven Service, who served as the resource person for the programme. The seminar introduced students to the fast-changing world of digital marketing and its growing importance in today’s business environment. It covered key concepts such as online branding, social media promotion, digital advertising strategies, audience engagement, and the role of data in understanding consumer behavior. The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, organized the National Conference on “Transforming Trade and Finance for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” on 19 September 2025 at Gallery Hall 1 & 3, Block V, SRMIST Ramapuram. The conference brought together academicians, industry professionals, and scholars to deliberate on the evolving relationship between trade, finance, and sustainable development in the contemporary global landscape. The event featured distinguished speakers including Mr. Ganesh Gopalan, Founder and CEO, Lissomsoft Technologies, Chennai; Dr. R. Manju Priya, Associate Professor, School of Commerce, Jain Deemed to be University, Bangalore; and Dr. S. S. Mani Prabu, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering, Chennai.
