The Seed Ball Preparation and Dispersal Programme, organized as part of Van Mahotsav Week 2026, was successfully conducted on 6 and 7 July 2026 by the Department of Commerce (PA, ISM & IAF), Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, in association with NSS. The programme aimed to promote environmental sustainability, afforestation, biodiversity conservation, and student participation in ecological initiatives. B.Com ISM students actively participated in preparing seed balls using native tree seeds and dispersing them across lake areas, public parks, and temple premises. The two-day initiative provided students with practical environmental learning while encouraging teamwork, community engagement, and a strong sense of responsibility towards nature.

The Department of Commerce organized a session on “E-Commerce Career Opportunities and Digital Business Development” to equip students with practical knowledge of website development, product listing, digital marketplace management, and e-commerce marketing strategies. The programme enhanced students' digital skills, entrepreneurial mindset, and awareness of career opportunities in the rapidly growing digital economy while supporting key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Industrial Visit to Pachaiyappas Silks

The Industrial Visit to Pachaiyappa’s Silks provided M.Com students with practical exposure to the silk textile industry, enabling them to understand production processes, quality control, supply chain management, and business operations. The visit bridged the gap between theoretical learning and industrial practices while enhancing students’ industry awareness, analytical skills, and understanding of entrepreneurship opportunities in the textile sector.

The One-Day Industry Expert Master Class on “Stock Market – Empowering Students for Smart Equity Investing and Wealth Creation” provided students with practical knowledge of equity investing, stock market fundamentals, trading strategies, and risk management. Screen to Street: Strategies for Reducing Digital Overuse among Children

The Commerce Department and Faculty of Management of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram organized an International Conference on the theme “Screen to Street: Strategies for Reducing Digital Overuse Among Children” on 12 February 2026 in hybrid mode at Block 5, Gallery Hall 3. The conference focused on addressing the growing concern of excessive digital screen exposure among children and explored practical strategies to encourage healthier, more balanced lifestyles. It brought together academic perspectives and management insights to discuss child well-being, responsible technology use, behavioural patterns, parental guidance, and community-based interventions. The programme served as a platform for meaningful dialogue on creating sustainable solutions that help children reconnect with real-world activities beyond screens.

COMMEX ’26

The Department of Commerce, under the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organized COMMEX ’26 – Digital Defenders, a national-level inter-collegiate event, on 6 February 2026 at the TRP Auditorium. The event was conducted for UG and PG students from across India and centered on the theme of digital awareness, cybersecurity, and responsible participation in the online world. Designed as a competitive and knowledge-driven platform, Digital Defenders aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of digital threats, cyber safety practices, and the importance of secure digital behaviour in an increasingly technology-driven society. By bringing together students from different institutions, the event encouraged collaboration, critical thinking, and awareness of contemporary digital challenges while promoting a culture of informed and responsible digital citizenship.

Be Your Own Boss: Lessons From An Alumni Entrepreneur

The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, organized Alumni Talk 2K26 on 3 February 2026 at 10:30 AM in Block V, Gallery Hall 1 on the theme “Be Your Own Boss: Lessons from an Alumni Entrepreneur.” The session featured Ms. Swetha K of the 2015–2018 batch, currently Operation Head / Senior Manager at Devi Industries, as the alumni guest speaker. The talk was designed to inspire students through the journey of an alumnus who stepped into the professional world and built leadership experience in industry. Centered on entrepreneurship, self-reliance, career growth, and real-world business lessons, the session gave students a practical glimpse into what it takes to lead, manage, and create opportunities instead of merely waiting for them. It served as a motivating platform for commerce students to understand the mindset, discipline, risk-taking, and decision-making required to become future entrepreneurs and industry leaders.

Tribal Women Leading Change: Grassroots Initiative and Social Transformation towards Viksit Bharat 2047

The Department of Commerce, under the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, organized an ICSSR SRC Sponsored Two-Day National Conference on “Tribal Women Leading Change: Grassroots Initiative and Social Transformation Towards Viksit Bharat 2047” on 29 and 30 January 2026 at Gallery Hall 1, Block V, SRMIST. The conference brought together academicians, scholars, professionals, and invited dignitaries to deliberate on the role of tribal women in shaping inclusive social transformation, grassroots leadership, and national development in the context of Viksit Bharat 2047. Spread across two days, the event featured distinguished guests including Dr. Seranmadevi R., Dr. Rajeshwari Ulango, Dr. P.B. Shankar Narayanan, and C.A. Dr. R. Madhumitha, whose participation enriched the conference with perspectives from academia, social work, finance, and community development. The conference served as an important academic platform to examine the contributions, challenges, and transformative potential of tribal women in driving sustainable change, while also aligning research and discussion with broader goals of equity, empowerment, and national progress.

WOMEN’S SAFETY IN THE DIGITAL AND SOCIAL ERA

The Department of Commerce, in association with the Women’s Grievances and Redressal Cell, organized a guest lecture on “Women’s Safety in the Digital and Social Era” on 12 January 2026 at Gallery Hall 1. The session was held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM and was exclusively intended for women students. The lecture was delivered by Dr. R. C. Sripriya, Headmaster, Government Model Higher Secondary School, Arumbakkam, Chennai, who served as the resource person for the programme. The session focused on the growing importance of women’s safety in both digital and social spaces, addressing concerns such as online harassment, cyber threats, responsible use of social media, privacy protection, and the need for awareness and confidence in navigating the digital world. By bringing together practical guidance and social awareness, the lecture aimed to empower women students with the knowledge, caution, and resilience required to stay safe and informed in an increasingly connected society.

The lecture was designed to help students understand the crucial role advertising plays in shaping a brand’s identity, visibility, and consumer appeal. By drawing attention to the connection between creativity, storytelling, media strategy, and brand positioning, the session offered valuable insights into how brands communicate, influence audiences, and build lasting recognition in competitive markets. Brand Building on the Topic DECODE THE LOGO - KNOW THE BRAND

The Department of Commerce, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, organized an online brand-building activity titled “Decode the Logo – Know the Brand” on 27 December 2025 and 31 December 2025 for 12th Standard Commerce students. The programme was designed to introduce school students to the fundamentals of branding by helping them understand how logos reflect a company’s identity, values, and market presence. Through this activity, participants were encouraged to observe, identify, and interpret brand logos while connecting them to the businesses behind them. The event served as an engaging learning platform to strengthen brand awareness, visual recognition, and marketing understanding among young commerce learners. It also aimed to spark curiosity about how successful brands are built and remembered in the minds of consumers. As part of the programme, participants were informed that they would receive an e-certificate for their participation.
