Dr. R. Vinoth Kumar

Dr. R. Vinoth Kumar, an Assistant Professor, possesses over 14 years of combined research and teaching experience in plant molecular biology, virology, biotechnology, and host–virus interactions. His research primarily focuses on begomoviruses, plant antiviral immunity, virus evolution, and sustainable agricultural biotechnology. He has authored over 25 research papers, several book chapters, and an edited book published by Springer. His dedication to excellence in teaching, impactful research, scientific collaboration, and student mentorship has established him as a dynamic educator and researcher committed to advancing biotechnology education and contributing to sustainable agricultural development.

Bio

Dr. R. Vinoth Kumar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, Chennai. He has completed his post-graduated from Bharathidasan University, Trichirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India.Subsequently, he earned his Ph.D. in Life Sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, where his research focused on the phylogeography of chilli-infecting begomoviruses and host–virus interactions. He subsequently completed postdoctoral research at the University of East Anglia, United Kingdom, under the prestigious ERASMUS MUNDUS Action-2 Fellowship, and at the National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bengaluru, as a recipient of the SERB National Post-Doctoral Fellowship.

Dr. Kumar has published more than 25 research articles in internationally reputed journals, authored several book chapters, and an edited the book. He serves as a reviewer for leading international journals and has contributed numerous viral genome sequences to the NCBI GenBank database. His academic achievements include the prestigious ICAR Jawaharlal Nehru Award for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Research, along with several national and international fellowships, recognizing his significant contributions to plant virology and biotechnology research.

At SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Dr. Kumar is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, mentoring student research projects, and developing innovative laboratory-based learning experiences. His research interests include plant antiviral immunity, virus evolution, molecular diagnostics, RNA silencing, and sustainable disease management in crop plants.
