The Department of Fashion Designing, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology – Ramapuram, organized an Industrial Visit to Dakshina Chitra Heritage Museum, Muttukadu, on 30 July 2025. The visit enabled students to explore the cultural traditions, architecture, textiles, and handicrafts of the four South Indian states—Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh. Students observed traditional weaving tools, regional costumes, natural dyeing techniques, embroidery, block printing, pottery, basket weaving, palm leaf art, and other indigenous crafts through interactive demonstrations by skilled artisans. The museum experience highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage while inspiring students to reinterpret traditional craftsmanship in contemporary fashion design. The visit also emphasized sustainable design practices, community-based craftsmanship, and creative innovation, helping students bridge theoretical knowledge with practical learning. Overall, the program served as a valuable experiential learning opportunity that enhanced students' design thinking, cultural awareness, appreciation for sustainable fashion, and readiness for careers in the fashion and creative industries.
