SUMMARY OF THE EVENT:
The Department of Fashion Designing at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organized an industrial visit to Dakshina Chitra .For the and First year M.Sc students and II M.Sc Studeny The objective of the visit was to provide students with practical exposure to the fashion Art gallery enhance their understanding of different types of arts and paints, and familiarize them with current . The students, accompanied by faculty members, visited the gallery.
The students were taken through various thematic zones within the museum, each representing architecture, lifestyle, and culture from four South Indian states—Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka.
a. Traditional Architecture Exploration
The museum showcases authentic ancestral homes that have been relocated and reconstructed brick by brick.Students analyzed traditional design layouts, spatial aesthetics, and materials used such as terracotta tiles, stone flooring, and wooden frameworks
b. Textile and Costume Galler
Students viewed ancient weaving tools, looms, traditional dye vats, and regional costumesDisplays included silk sarees, handloom dhotis, tribal garments, and ornamental accessories.The detailing in embroidery, block printing, and natural dyeing methods sparked design inspiration.
c. Craft Demonstrations
Artisans demonstrated pottery, basket weaving, handloom weaving, and palm leaf art.Students were encouraged to interact with craftspeople, understand their techniques, and document their work.Special attention was given to eco-friendly practices and the sustainable use of materials
d. Cultural Exhibits
Folk art, murals, puppetry, and religious art forms gave students insights into iconography and symbolism used in traditional design.Students reflected on how storytelling through art could be adapted to modern fashion narratives.

- Understand the relationship between culture and fashion design.
- Recognize how traditional craftsmanship can be reinterpreted for contemporary fashion.
