The Department of Commerce, School of Humanities, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai–Ramapuram, successfully organized a webinar on “Understanding India’s Tax System in the Digital Age” on 21 August 2026 (Friday) from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The programme was conducted at the East Block Classroom and was primarily targeted at 2nd Year UG Commerce students.

 The webinar was organized to enhance students’ understanding of India’s taxation system and to familiarize them with the growing role of digital technology in tax administration and compliance. The programme provided students with an opportunity to gain practical insights into taxation from an industry professional.

The session was handled by Mr. Monish Vasu, Senior Process Associate and Cost Management Accountant, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), who served as the Resource Person. With his professional experience in the corporate sector, he shared valuable practical knowledge regarding taxation and its digital transformation. The webinar commenced at 10:00 a.m. with the participation of the targeted group of 2nd Year UG Commerce students. The resource person explained the changing nature of taxation in India and highlighted how digital technologies have transformed tax-related processes. The session enabled students to relate their classroom learning with contemporary practices followed in the corporate and taxation environment. The interaction with the resource person also provided students with an opportunity to gain professional insights and clarify their understanding of taxation and digital tax practices. The programme concluded at 11:00 a.m.

   Outcome of the Programme

The webinar successfully enhanced students’ awareness and understanding of India’s taxation system in the digital era. Students gained practical exposure to the importance of digital platforms in tax administration, filing and compliance. The session also helped bridge the gap between theoretical learning and industry practices by providing insights from an experienced corporate professional. The programme further developed students’ awareness of the changing requirements of the business environment and encouraged them to acquire relevant knowledge and skills for their future academic and professional careers. The interaction with the industry expert also motivated students to understand taxation from a practical and career-oriented perspective.
