Bridge Course for II B.A. English

Report on Bridge Course for II B.A. English

The Department of Language, Culture and Society, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, successfully organised a Bridge Course for II B.A. English on 24 and 25 June 2026 at Block V, Room 401. The programme was designed to strengthen students' foundational knowledge and prepare them for the academic requirements of the second year by bridging the gap between the first and second year curriculum.

The bridge course comprised four interactive sessions delivered by faculty members from the Department of Language, Culture and Society. On 24 June 2026, Mrs. K. C. Mythili, Assistant Professor, conducted the first session on American Literature, introducing students to significant literary movements, authors, and thematic concerns. The second session was handled by Dr. Agalya V. T. Raj, Assistant Professor, who presented an Introduction to Gender Studies, familiarising students with key concepts, perspectives, and contemporary debates in the field.

On 25 June 2026, Dr. Kavitha K, Assistant Professor, conducted a session on Professional English, focusing on communication skills, workplace language, and professional writing. The final session was delivered by Dr. R. Blessy, Assistant Professor, on TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), providing students with an overview of English language teaching methodologies and emerging opportunities in the field.

The sessions were highly interactive and encouraged active student participation through discussions and classroom activities. The programme enhanced students' conceptual understanding, broadened their academic perspectives, and equipped them with the knowledge and skills required for the forthcoming semester.

Overall, the Bridge Course proved to be a valuable academic initiative, enabling students to transition confidently into the second year of their programme while reinforcing their subject knowledge and fostering greater academic engagement.
