Expert Talk on “The Art of Seeing Differently”

The School of Media Studies, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organised an Expert Talk titled “The Art of Seeing Differently” on 2 July 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Preview Theater, PG Dental Block, with the participation of 50 students. The session was delivered by Dr. Hemachandran Karah, Associate Professor, IIT Madras, Ph.D., University of Cambridge, UK, and focused on the importance of observation, perception, creative thinking, and viewing ideas and experiences from multiple perspectives. The talk was particularly relevant to Media Studies students, as visual communication, filmmaking, journalism, and other creative practices require the ability to observe, interpret, question, and communicate ideas effectively. Dr. Hemachandran Karah encouraged students to move beyond conventional approaches and develop a broader and more thoughtful perspective towards the world around them. The interactive session provided students with an opportunity to engage with the resource person and gain academic and creative insights beyond the classroom. The programme enhanced students’ understanding of observation and perception, encouraged critical and creative thinking, and motivated them to apply diverse perspectives to their academic and media-related activities. The event also contributed to SDG 4 – Quality Education through expert-led experiential learning, SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth by developing adaptable creative and critical-thinking skills, SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure by promoting innovative approaches to problem-solving, SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities by encouraging broader perspectives towards society and surroundings, and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals by facilitating academic knowledge exchange with IIT Madras. The programme was convened by Dr. V. Prabakaran, Head, School of Media Studies, and coordinated by Ms. Padmavathy P. S., Assistant Professor.
