The Department of Fashion Designing, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology – Ramapuram, organized an Industrial Visit to the Weavers Service Centre (WSC), Besant Nagar, Chennai, on 7 October 2025. A total of 42 students participated in the visit, where they explored various sections of the centre, including the Design Studio, Weaving Unit, Dyeing and Printing Section, and Textile Sample Gallery. Students observed live demonstrations of yarn preparation, warping, loom operation, jacquard weaving, CAD-based textile design, block printing, screen printing, stencil printing, and both natural and synthetic dyeing techniques. The visit also highlighted sustainable textile practices, eco-friendly dyes, and the important role of the Weavers Service Centre in supporting artisans through design development, training, and marketing assistance. Interactive sessions with technical experts helped students connect classroom concepts with real-world textile production while appreciating the preservation of India's handloom heritage through technological innovation. Overall, the visit was an enriching experiential learning opportunity that strengthened students' technical knowledge, creative skills, industry awareness, and appreciation for sustainable fashion and textile design.
