Objective of the Event

The guest lecture was organised with the objective of exposing students to contemporary developments in the global garment industry, industry–academia collaboration, professional opportunities, and the role of professional bodies such as The Textile Association (India) in shaping future fashion professionals. Brief Report of the Event

The Department of Fashion Designing, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, successfully organised a guest lecture on “Empowering Future Fashion Professionals: A Decade of Global Garment Industry Transformation” on 07 January 2026. The programme commenced with a warm welcome to the resource persons and participants. The first session was delivered by Mr. A. Kanthimathinanthan, who elaborated on the role and significance of The Textile Association (India) and highlighted the possibilities and benefits of the TAI – Students Chapter. He emphasized student engagement with professional bodies, networking opportunities, skill development initiatives, and exposure to real-time industry practices. The session motivated students to actively participate in professional associations to enhance their career readiness. The second session was handled by Mr. R. Dhamotharan, who provided an insightful overview of the transformations witnessed in the global garment industry over the past decade. He discussed key areas such as technological advancements, digitalisation, sustainability initiatives, supply chain innovations, and changing consumer behaviour. The speaker also shared industry experiences and practical insights, enabling students to understand current trends and future career prospects in the garment sector. Both sessions were interactive, with students actively participating in the discussion and seeking clarification on career pathways, entrepreneurship, and industry expectations. The resource persons encouraged students to continuously upgrade their skills and adapt to the evolving global fashion and garment industry.
