SUMMARY OF THE EVENT:

The Department of Fashion Designing, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, successfully organized an Industrial Visit to the Ordnance Clothing Factory (OCF), Avadi, a premier defence clothing manufacturing unit under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.

Our B.Sc III Year and M.Sc I Year students had the valuable opportunity to witness large-scale, precision-driven garment manufacturing dedicated to serving the nation. The visit provided in-depth exposure to the structured production workflow, from fabric inspection and pattern development to cutting, stitching, assembly, finishing, and stringent quality control processes followed in defence apparel manufacturing.

Students gained practical insights into:

  • Specialized defence garment construction techniques
  • High-performance and functional textile applications
  • Standardized production systems and compliance protocols
  • Quality assurance and testing procedures
  • Industrial discipline, safety measures, and operational efficiency

The interaction with technical experts and production officials helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-time industrial practices. Observing advanced machinery, streamlined production lines, and systematic inventory management enriched the students’ understanding of technical apparel manufacturing at a national level.

The visit reinforced the importance of precision, durability, functionality, and responsibility in garment production—especially when designing for defence personnel. It was a proud and inspiring experience for our students to witness garments that symbolize protection, commitment, and honor.

This industrial exposure stands as a significant step toward experiential learning, industry collaboration, and professional readiness.

“Designed for Defense, Manufactured with Honor.”
