SUMMARY OF THE EVENT

The Department of Computer Science (AI & ML) at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organized a specialized technical session titled “One Day Hands-on Deep Learning with Modern Neural Network Architectures.” Hosted under the Faculty of Science and Humanities, the event served as a “Place for Transformation” by bridging the gap between academic theory and industry application. This workshop was specifically designed to equip students with the practical skills necessary to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of artificial intelligence.

The session featured Mr. Jai Ganesh Suresh, a distinguished industry professional currently serving as the Lead AI Architect at Ericsson, as the resource person. By bringing an expert of this caliber to the campus, the department provided students with a rare opportunity to learn from a practitioner at the forefront of global AI implementation. Mr. Suresh’s insights into architectural design offered a high-level perspective on how deep learning models are constructed and deployed within massive corporate infrastructures.

The core of the workshop focused on the practical implementation of Modern Neural Network Architectures, moving beyond foundational concepts to explore complex models such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs), or Transformers. The “hands-on” nature of the day ensured that participants moved past passive listening to engage in active coding and model building. This immersive approach is vital for mastering the nuances of training algorithms and optimizing them for real-world performance.

Scheduled for Thursday, February 5, 2026, the workshop was held in the 3rd Floor Gallery Hall of Block V, commencing at 10:30 AM. The setting facilitated a professional learning environment where students could interact directly with the resource person and collaborate on technical tasks. The structure of the day was meticulously planned to balance conceptual lectures with intensive lab-style sessions, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience within the one-day timeframe.

The event concluded by reinforcing SRM’s status as a top-tier institution, highlighted by its A++ NAAC rating and strong global rankings in the QS and Nature Index. Furthermore, the workshop aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals, including Quality Education and Industry Innovation, by fostering a technologically adept workforce. The session left students with a deeper understanding of deep learning frameworks and a clearer roadmap for pursuing careers in the competitive field of AI and Machine Learning.
