Professional Development Programme on Media Production

The Department of Visual Communication, School of Media Studies, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organized a Professional Development Programme on Media Production in association with the Placement and Training Cell from 9th February to 16th February 2026, between 09:00 AM and 12:30 PM at the Preview Theatre. The programme witnessed the participation of 85 students and aimed to provide comprehensive industry exposure in the field of filmmaking and media production.

The programme featured eminent industry professionals including Neelan K. Sekar, Director and Script Writer, who spoke on screenplay writing and storytelling structure; Vishnu Vardhan, National Award–winning Director, who shared insights on filmmaking and visual storytelling; and M. S. Prabhu, Cinematographer, who explained cinematography techniques and visual aesthetics. Sessions were also conducted by Sreekar Prasad and Jayakrishnan, Film Editors, focusing on editing techniques and post-production workflows; Karthik Swarnakumar, Cinematographer, on visual storytelling; and Vijay Rathnam, Sound Engineer, on sound design and audio techniques.

Further sessions included Jishnu Varma, Film Director, who discussed directing techniques and regional cinema trends; Mathivanan, CEO of Super Good Films, who provided insights into production management and industry opportunities; and Tamil Arasan, Director, Writer, and Actor, who interacted with students on independent filmmaking and career building in cinema.

The sessions were highly interactive and covered key areas such as storytelling, cinematography, editing, sound design, directing, and production management. Students gained practical knowledge and a deeper understanding of the real-world functioning of the film industry, enhancing their technical skills and creative abilities.

The programme was convened by Dr. V. Prabakaran (Head, Media Studies) and coordinated by Ms. Haripriya B.K, with the support of student volunteers, ensuring the successful execution of the programme.

Overall, the programme significantly enhanced students’ professional competencies, creativity, and career awareness, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practices.
