SUMMARY OF THE EVENT:

The Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Business Studies, SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Ramapuram, organised a Beat Visit to the Secretariat – Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on 7th September 2026. Designed as an immersive journalism learning experience, the visit gave students an opportunity to step beyond the classroom and experience the political beat through the eyes of a reporter.

The visit offered students first-hand exposure to the functioning of the Legislative Assembly and the political environment surrounding it. By observing political proceedings and the dynamics of the Secretariat, students gained valuable insights into how journalists identify developments, understand political contexts, and approach stories for news reporting.

Moving “Beyond Classroom, Towards Newsroom,” the visit connected academic learning with the realities of political journalism. It encouraged students to engage with the political beat, develop a reporter’s perspective, and envision themselves as emerging journalists covering real-world political developments.
