NSS Awareness Programme – “Say No To Drugs”

The Department of Data Science, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, organised an NSS Awareness Programme titled "Say No To Drugs" on 29th August 2026, aimed at educating UG Data Science students on the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting healthy, responsible lifestyle choices. The session featured interactive discussions, creative slogan-making, and active student participation, reinforcing key messages like "Say No to Drugs, Say Yes to Life!" The programme successfully fostered awareness about personal responsibility and encouraged students to contribute towards building a healthier, drug-free campus and society.

Brand Building – Hands-on Workshop on Data Visualization using Power BI

As part of the Brand Building initiative of the Department of Data Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, SRM Institute of Science and Technology – Ramapuram Campus, a one-day hands-on workshop titled "FutureViz: Exploring Data Visualization with Data Studio and Career Opportunities" was conducted for XI and XII students of Shri Krishnaswamy Matriculation Hr. Sec. School, Villivakkam, on 27th August 2026. Led by Dr. N. Vijayalakshmi and faculty members, the workshop introduced students to Power BI and the fundamentals of data visualization, offering hands-on exposure to analytical thinking, contemporary data technologies

Journal Club: Interactive Simulations for Science and Math & Made with Teachable Machine

A Journal Club session on "Interactive Simulations for Science and Math & Made with Teachable Machine" was conducted on 26th August 2026 at Block 5, Third Floor Lab, SRMIST Ramapuram, by Dr. R. Ramya Devi, Assistant Professor, Department of Data Science, FLABS, SRMIST, who explored how interactive digital simulations and accessible tools like Teachable Machine can make scientific and mathematical concepts more visual, exploratory, and experiential, encouraging participants to adopt technology-enabled, hands-on approaches for engaging and effective teaching-learning practices.

International Faculty Development Program–Emerging Trends in Data Science and Intelligent Systems

The Department of Data Science, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Business Studies, SRM Institute of Science and Technology – Ramapuram Campus, organized a six-day International Faculty Development Programme on "Emerging Trends in Data Science and Intelligent Systems" from 17 to 22 August 2026 in online mode. The programme covered progressive themes including cloud computing, data science fundamentals, AI and machine learning, healthcare applications with wearable technologies, interdisciplinary AI research, and graph learning for anomaly detection, enhancing participants' knowledge and encouraging integration of these emerging technologies into teaching, research, and interdisciplinary academic pursuits.

“Journal Metrics: Understanding Quality, Impact and Strategic Journal Selection”

The faculty-oriented academic session on “Journal Metrics” was conducted on 08 August 2026 at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Ramapuram, to enhance faculty awareness of journal quality, indexing databases, citation metrics, quartile rankings, and researcher-level indicators. The session emphasized informed journal selection, independent verification of indexing status, responsible publication practices, and awareness of predatory journals to strengthen research visibility and academic impact.

Journal Club: Journal Metrics

The Department of Data Science, FLABS, SRMIST organized a Journal Club session on "Journal Metrics: Understanding Quality, Impact and Strategic Journal Selection" on 8th August 2026, led by Dr. R. Renuga Devi, Associate Professor, Department of Data Science, who explained key indexing databases (Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed/MEDLINE) and journal metrics such as Journal Impact Factor, CiteScore, SJR, quartiles (Q1–Q4), h-index and i10-index, while emphasizing the importance of verifying journal quality, avoiding predatory publications, and making informed journal-selection decisions to strengthen research visibility and institutional research impact.
